Carlo was born in London on May 3rd, 1991 in a wealthy Italian family with Irish and Polish heritage. He was baptized on May 18th, 1991 in the church of
Our Lady of Dolours, Chelsea. Andrea Acutis, and Antonia Salzano, his parents, who were not very religious, worked in London and Germany before moving and settling in Milan in September of 1991. Carlo indicated a strong interest in religious practices, and asked to receive his First Communion at the age of seven, which is very unusual. He achieved this at the convent of
St. Ambrogio ad Nemus. Either before or after mass, Carlo made an effort to reflect before the tabernacle. He became a
frequent communicant and made
weekly confessions. He had several role models, such as St. Francis of Assisi, Sts. Francisco, Jacinto Marto, Dominic Savio, Tarcisius, and Bernadette Soubirous. his education comes from
the Jesuit Instituto Leone XIII high school in Milan. Socia
lly, he would worry about his friend's parent's divorce and would often invite them into his home to support them. He would defend his disabled friends when bullied. Outside school, he voluntarily worked with the homeless and less fortunate. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the town of Assisi. His friends thought of him as a "computer geek" because of his passion and skill with computers and the internet. Carlo gave himself the task of creating a website made to report of each and ever Eucharistic Miracle in the world. At the age of 11, Carlo finished this task. Carlo
admired Blessed Giacomo Alberione's ability
to use the media to spread
and proclaim the word of God
and planned to follow in his steps
with his website
. He also liked movies
and comic editing as well as using
a playstation. On the website, he wrote,
"T
he more Eucharist we receive, the more we will become like Jesus, so that on this earth we will have a foretaste of heaven.". After contracting leukemia, he offered the pain to Pope Benedict XVI and the Universal Church,
"I offer all the suffering I will have to undergo for the Lord, for the Pope, and the Church.". He had previously asked his parents to take him to the sites of the Eucharistic miracles, but his worsening condition prevented this. The doctors treating him asked him if he was in extreme pain, he remarked,
"T
here are people who suffer much more than me.". Blessed Carlo Acutis passed away on October 12th,
2006 at 6:45 AM from M3 fulminant leukemia. In accordance with his wishes, he was buried in Assisi. Antonia, his mother attributed his intercession the birth of her twins at the age of 44, who were born exactly 4 years after his death. St. Francis of Assisi appeared to her in a dream and said,
"Your son occupies a very high place in heaven and after being canonized, there will come a GENERATION OF SAINTS.". Carlo appeared to her and
said,
"I will be beatified soon and soon after, canonized.". A memorial photo of Carlo has traveled to a great multitude of countries, and across five continents. His beautification campaign began shortly after his death, but really got off the ground in 2013. Pope Francis declared him Venerable on June 5th, 2018.
Luchiana Vianna had taken her son, Mattheus, who was born with a pancreatic defect that made eating difficult, to a prayer service. Prior to that
, she
had prayed a novena asking for Carlos
' intercession. During the service Matheus
had asked that he should not "throw up as much". Immediately after
the service, Mattheus told his mother he felt healed and requested
solid food after
he came home. Until then, he had been prescribed
an all-liquid diet. After a scrupulous
investigation, Pope Francis approved
the authenticity of the miracle in a decree on February 21st,
2020, leading to Carlo's
beatification. Because of COVID-19, the ceremony was postponed to October 10th, 2020. It was held at the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. Carlo's postulator was Nicola Gori. His patronage is of the youth, and computer programmers. Attributes include a laptop, the rosary, the Blessed Sacrament, and Eucharistic miracles. Crowds by the multitudes have viewed his exposed relics since his beatification. His body is incorrupt.
